Jane Gottesman

Founder & CEO

As a newspaper reporter in the ’90s, Jane was one of the few journalists at the time covering the broader systemic implications of girls and women having fair access to school-based athletic opportunities. Jane’s interest can be traced to the day, in 1973, when she was 7, and watched the “Battle of the Sexes” tennis spectacle on TV when Billie Jean King triumphed after being challenged by Bobby Riggs. The circle was complete when, in 2001, after years of reporting, Jane created the exhibition, book, and education project, Game Face: What Does a Female Athlete Look Like? It won a Billie Award for Innovation from the Women's Sports Foundation, the organization King launched after her 1973 victory. Jane is the founder of Working Assumptions, a cultural not-for-profit that makes grants and produces its own projects including Showing: Pregnancy in the Workplace; Showing: Work x Family and wrkxfmly. Jane’s interest in real estate was cultivated as a child when she’d go on weekend errands that often included holding one end of a surveyors measuring tape for her father, a parking executive.
